The most celebrated of all actresses, Marilyn Monroe, was born Norma Jean Mortenson, on June 1, 1926, in the Los Angeles General Hospital, in California.
After what can be described, generously, as a rough childhood, the future 'Sexiest Female Movie Star of All Time' tturned to modelling and then, upon being noticed by Howard Hughes, to acting.
The natural brunette bleached her hair, and signed with Fox Studios. Her beauty and innocent sexuality brought her notice, both good and bad, but happiness was not an easy thing to come by.
She died of a drug overdose in 1962 at the age of 36, cementing in the public memory the platinum blonde goddess.
Ex-husband Joe DiMaggio put fresh roses on her memorial site for years after her death.
